IPC Certification, Solder Training, and Consulting

BEST is an IPC Master Certification Solder Training Center offering Instructor and Operator courses for IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-620, IPC-A-600 and IPC 7711/7721. We also offer re-certification courses and "challenge" tests. Our IPC Training Division employs some of the most experienced instructors in the industry. We offer customized classes for SMT, Advanced SMT, and BGA Rework classes on-site at your facility or at our headquarters near Chicago, Illinois. All classes are taught by instructors who not only know the material but have also performed the techniques thousands of times on our customer's boards to prove their "real life" effectiveness and reliability. Additionally, if you need an outside set of eyes to review your training program, administer solder tests, or have an independent evaluation of your soldering techniques, use BEST as your resource.

Assembly Courses

The IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies has become the authority for electronics assembly manufacturing. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections. The BEST SMT Assembly Class provides for a practical overview of the SMT assembly process while the 101 classes are designed for those unfamiliar with the basics of hand soldering.

Inspection Courses

The IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies is the most widely used specification published by the IPC for the electronics manufacturing industry. This publication is a visual document that provides comprehensive accept/reject criteria for the handling of electronic assemblies, mechanical assemblies, component installation, location, orientation, soldering, cleanliness of assemblies, marking of assemblies, coatings, laminate conditions, discrete wiring assembly and surface mount assemblies. Our hands-on inspection course takes those with specification knowledge and deals with the real world challenges of PCB inspection in a hands-on class.

REWORK AND REPAIR COURSES

In addition to the IPC registered classes, BEST offers customized classes to meet your specific training needs. All our IPC Certification classes are in accordance with the latest IPC-7711 and 7721 standards. All of the BEST (non-IPC) classes are approximately 85% hands-on and are designed to dramatically raise the skill set of the student by emphasizing correct soldering techniques. Students are evaluated on their hands-on work, as opposed to an administrative test. This method has been proven to help the student retain the information he/she has learned, and ensure that they can accomplish the rework tasks required for their job function.

WIRE HARNESS COURSES

IPC/WHMA-A-620 is an industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation used by both military and commercial contractors. Classes of products are defined and include criteria for Target, Acceptable, Process Indicator and Defect conditions to support the collection of visual quality acceptability requirements for each class. The Wires and Terminals 101 class is for those unfamiliar with hand soldering teaching the students the skills of crimping, stripping, tinning and soldering to terminals among-est others.

PCB INSPECTION (BARE BOARD) COURSES

The IPC-A-600 specification for rigid printed boards is the standard for PCB workmanship quality. Training in this program involves learning the acceptance criteria on all types of printed board surface and internal conditions. The knowledge of this criteria is important to both the PCB manufacturer and assembler. Your knowledge will improve your understanding of printed board quality issues while improving communication between you and your PCB manufacturer. In addition, the IPC-6102 training program is a comprehensive program that will develop your understanding of design, specifications, fabrication, and inspection of printed circuit boards (PCBs).

LEAD-FREE COURSES

In addition to various IPC Certification courses, BEST offers a hands-on series of lead-free soldering courses for technicians, operators and engineers on a broad array of lead-free soldering topics. Our beginning level lead-free orientation course is intended for everyone in the supply chain from purchasing to program management through receiving. Additional courses are offered in lead-free rework, wave soldering and SMT manufacturing. These courses are intended for process engineers and technicians and are designed as a more in-depth look at the issues in these process areas. Each of the students who participate in this course is required to take a proficiency test and will only get a "passing grade" if they complete the test with 80% correct answers:
