Broken Corner Repair
PCB corners are many times damaged by poor handling procedures. When the corner of the PCB delaminates, blisters, measles or is otherwise damaged, BEST technicians can repair these as well as other laminate defects. When this happens to critical prototype, development or high value boards such as servers, BEST repair technicians can repair the laminate so that it is returned to an "as new" condition.
Whether it is a minor or major repair, BEST technicians use a high strength, thermoset epoxy, along with the skill set to make sharp corners after rebuilding or consistent edges to bring the laminate surface back into specification.
BEST technicians use a variety of different IPC repair techniques along with the "tricks of the trade" they have learned over many years. This will enable them to accomplish a high quality repair where only a trained eye could discern that a repair had been performed.
A general laminate repair, which applies to the repair of broken PCB corners is explained below.
The damaged PCB laminate is cleaned and then can be inspected to see the extent of the damage. Many times it is masked off from other areas of the board during the repair process so that debris and epoxy are confined to a given area.
Excess debris or laminate is scraped off the PCB using a sharp edged tool.
The PCB epoxy is mixed, and if appropriate colorants are mixed in order to match the color of the board.
The epoxy is cured and then subsequent finishing steps will further match the repaired area to the remainder of the PCB. After completion the board is cleaned and inspected.
