The high-tech city of Huntsville sprawls at the foot of a mountain in Northern Alabama. Huntsville's tourist attractions reflect the heritage of Alabama's first English-speaking city, the strife of the American Civil War, and the accomplishments of America's rocket scientists.

The city is nicknamed "The Rocket City" for its close history with U.S. space missions. Huntsville has been important in developing space technology since the 1950s. Formed in 1960 to build rockets for NASA, the Marshall Space Flight Center is one of Huntsville's most fascinating spots. This is home to one of NASA's largest installations, occupying some 1800 acres on Redstone Arsenal. Marshall has been involved in almost every important space project including the Hubble Telescope and the current International Space Station. In addition to space exploration, Huntsville natural exhibits such as Cathedral Caverns State Park and Huntsville Madison County Botanical Garden.
