Dear Subscriber:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Japanese people as they begin the massive clean up project after the earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit their island nation.

This months' newsletter features some information on dye and pry as a means to determine interconnect integrity. It also inlcudes our announcement of BEST being an IPC/WHMA-A-620 master training center and the promise of wireless power through magnetic coupling.

We were recently re-audited for our ISO registration. If you need to send out PCB rework and repair or be trained by a firm with these credentials, we invite you to call BEST.

For our MidAtlantic customers we will soon be announcing a location close to you where we will be coming for training!

See you at APEX!

Wireless Power in Our Future?

A fairly recent start-up is developing the technology for wireless power transfer. The main principle they are using its resonant magnetic coupling.

This occurs when two objects exchange energy through their varying or oscillating magnetic fields. Resonant coupling occurs when the natural frequencies of the two objects are approximately the same.

This company's power sources and capture devices are specially designed magnetic resonators that efficiently transfer power over large distances via the magnetic near-field. These proprietary source and device designs and the electronic systems that control them support efficient energy transfer over distances that are many times the size of the sources/devices themselves.

This company's power source (seen above) is connected to AC power. The blue lines represent the magnetic near field induced by the power source. The yellow lines represent the flow of energy from the source to the capture coil, which is shown powering a light bulb.

BEST has developed a new "StikNPeel" rework stencil which insures board to stencil coplanarity. It is flexible for tight space requirements and does not need to be cleaned. This makes for a more repeatable, faster rework process.

These stencils are available in either 4, 5 or 6 mil thickness.

COST: ONLY $80.00 for a package of (10) stencils.
