About the IPC-A-610

IPC-A-610-C Class "A" Instructor Certification

IPC-A-610 is the most widely published and used electronics assembly standard in the industry and is invaluable for all inspectors, operators and trainers. This IPC standards document has an international reputation as the source for end product acceptance criteria for consumer and high reliability printed wiring assemblies. It is a must for all quality assurance and assembly departments. IPC-A-610D illustrates industry-accepted workmanship criteria for electronics assemblies through full-color photographs and illustrations. Topics include lead free, component orientation and soldering criteria for through-hole, SMT and discrete wiring assemblies, mechanical assembly, cleaning, marking, coating, and laminate requirements.

About the IPC Training Program
The IPC-A-610 Training and Certification Program offers those interested in company-wide quality assurance initiatives in an industry-sponsored program to support their commitment to continuous improvement of product quality and reliability. The program provides individuals with a portable credential that represents their understanding of the IPC-A-610. The term for an IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Trainer is two years. This lecture-based (i.e. NO soldering skills tested) course utilizes the images in the IPC-A-610 document to provide visual accept/reject criteria examples for all three classes of assembly production–for both lead and lead-free. Recertification training is conducted at the Authorized Certification Centers or through the internet.

Who Should Become a Trainer?
Anyone responsible for the quality and reliability of electronic assemblies should consider becoming an IPC-A-610 CIT Certified IPC Trainer. Trainers and quality supervisors versed in electronic assembly are excellent candidates for A-610 training, as are engineering and manufacturing supervisors with assembly responsibilities. The IPC-A-610 IPC Trainer Training and Certification Course is a comprehensive four (4) day review of the IPC-A-610C Standard.

Who Should Become A610 certified as a CIS?
For numerous organizations, IPC-A-610 certification is required for anyone who holds a solder certification, who is an inspector, or who examines products and makes accept/reject decisions. This requirement includes all assemblers, quality personnel, manufacturing & process engineers, and some test technicians & test engineers, as well as design engineers. Most companies have made the decision to adopt this industry-consensus IPC-A-610 standard; thus the training to IPC-A-610 replaced certification to MIL-STD-2000A. The IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist Training and Certification Course is an extensive three (3) day review of the IPC-A-610C Standard.

The IPC-A-610 CIS certification training program is valuable to the electronics industry as it defines a clear, distinct level of training, which is acknowledged and accepted by other users of the program. Holding an IPC certificate illustrates that the individual had successfully learned a precise set of industry-recognized criteria, which in turn is a terrific starting point for excellent quality quest.
