IPC Certification, Solder Training and Consulting

BEST is an IPC Master Certification Solder Training Center offering Instructor and Operator courses for IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-620, IPC-A-600, IPC-6012 and IPC 7711/7721. We also offer re-certification courses and "challenge" tests. Our IPC Training Division employs some of the most experienced instructors in the industry. We offer customized classes for SMT, Advanced SMT, and BGA Rework classes on-site at your facility or at our headquarters near Chicago, Illinois. All classes are taught by instructors who not only know the material, but have also performed the techniques thousands of times on our customer's boards to prove their "real life" effectiveness and reliability. This has resulted in thousands of IPC certifications being granted by them.  Additionally, if you need an outside set of eyes to review your training program, IPC certification program, administer solder tests, or have an independent evaluation of your soldering techniques, use BEST as your resource.

Assembly Courses

The IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies has become the authority for electronics assembly manufacturing. BEST can provide IPC certification training for both operators and instructors. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections. The BEST SMT Assembly Class provides for a practical overview of the SMT assembly process while the 101 classes are designed for those unfamiliar with the basics of hand soldering.

Inspection Courses

The IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies IPC certification program relies on the  most widely-used specification published by the IPC for the electronics manufacturing industry. This publication is a visual document that provides comprehensive accept/reject criteria for the handling of electronic assemblies, mechanical assemblies, component installation, location, orientation, soldering, cleanliness of assemblies, marking of assemblies, coatings, laminate conditions, discrete wiring assembly and surface mount assemblies. If you need IPC certification training for operators or instructors then BEST is your source. Our hands-on inspection course takes those with specification knowledge and deals with the real world challenges of PCB inspection in a hands-on class.

Rework and Repair Courses

In addition to the IPC certification classes, BEST offers customized classes to meet your specific training needs. All of our classes are in accordance with the latest IPC-7711 and 7721 standards. All of the BEST (non-IPC) classes are approximately 85% hands-on, and are designed to dramatically raise the skill set of the student by emphasizing correct soldering techniques. Students are evaluated on their hands-on work, as opposed to an administrative test. This method has been proven to help the student retain the information he/she has learned, and ensure that they can accomplish the rework tasks required for their job function.

Wire Harness Courses

IPC/WHMA-A-620 is an industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation used by both military and commercial contractors. Classes of products are defined and include criteria for Target, Acceptable, Process Indicator and Defect conditions to support the collection of visual quality acceptability requirements for each class. Our Cables and Wire Harness Course will provide you with hands-on training not provided in the 620 certification program. Finally, the Wires and Terminals 101 class is for those unfamiliar with hand soldering teaching the students the skills of crimping, stripping, tinning and soldering to terminals amongst others.

PCB Inspection (Bare Board) Courses

The IPC-A-600 specification for rigid printed boards is the standard for PCB workmanship quality. IPC certification training in this program involves learning the acceptance criteria on all types of printed board surface and internal conditions. The knowledge of this criteria is important to both the PCB manufacturer and assembler. Your knowledge will improve your understanding of printed board quality issues while improving communication between you and your PCB manufacturer. In addition, the IPC-6012 IPC certification training program is a comprehensive program that will develop your understanding of design, specifications, fabrication and inspection of printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Courses

BEST instructors teach the basic concepts of ESD: how it occurs, proper precautionary measures required to avoid electronic damage to sensitive electronic components, how to control ESD by working in ESD protected areas and workstations, proper mitigation techniques, proper handling techniques and use of personal grounding devices.

Lead-Free Courses

In addition, BEST offers a hands-on series of lead-free soldering courses for technicians, operators and engineers on a broad array of lead-free soldering topics. Our beginning level lead-free orientation course is intended for everyone in the supply chain from purchasing to program management through receiving. Additional courses are offered in lead-free rework, wave soldering and SMT manufacturing. These courses are intended for process engineers and technicians and are designed as a more in-depth look at the issues in these process areas. Each of the students who participate in this course are required to take a proficiency test and will only get a "passing grade" if they complete the test with 80% correct answers:

Cable and Wire Harness Assembly

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE COURSE OUTLINE REGISTRATION CONTACT US

The BEST Cable and Wire Harness Assembly course is a comprehensive course that will give individuals the practical hands-on experience necessary to build an entire wire harness assembly. This hands-on course is supplemental to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 CIT and/or CIS certification program. The IPC/WHMA-A-620 Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies has become the most important process, materials, and inspections standard for the cable and wire harness industry. Now BEST is marrying the industry standard inspection class with a modularized wire harness course teaching students the “how to” practical elements of the industry.

During the course, students will be introduced to wire harness print readings and interpretation, wire preparation and solder terminations, coaxial terminations, pin crimp terminations, IDC terminations, splicing, lug crimp terminations, and harness securing. This course is taught through a series of hands-on labs. Students can choose to attend the entire course, or a comp[any can tailor the wire harness assembly course based on its training need be connected to each individual pin of the multi-pin connector. Students will be using industry standard tools including wire cutters, various strippers, soldering irons and test equipment This course is structures in accordance to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 specification which means students interested in taking this wire harness assembly course should have already been trained in the IPC/WHMA-620 standards.

For the final part of the wire harness assembly course students will be given a complete wire harness to build. The student will interpret the drawings, prep the wires and cables based on the cut list. Student of the wire harness assembly class will have to determine which wire type, wire jacket color and what length of wire will have

If you would like to build your own course on wire harness assembly BEST Inc has a wire harness assembly course training kit which is available for purchase.

Each graduate of the wire harness training class will receive a certificate of completion from BEST.

Course Objective:

- interpret a wire harness print

- prepare the cables and terminations according to the print

- rout, wire, and test the interconnections

Materials Provided:

- sample cables, wires and connectors that are used throughout the course

- BEST Inc. certificate of completion
