Throughole PCB Repair Kits from BEST
Through-holes or vias can be damaged in the handling of PCB's or through the improper removal of a device. The BEST Through-hole Repair Kit can assist in the repair of these through-holes to make them look as good as new.

BEST Through-hole repair kits are designed by artisans who have been repairing circuit boards for many years, therefore the right tools have been included in this general through-hole repair kit. This kit includes a large number of flat flange eyelets in a good variety of sizes, which are recommended when a low profile or clearance factor is required. The swage tool base and fixture allow for easy replacement of these eyelets. Professional stainless steel tweezers grab and hold the eyelets while you are replacing or repairing plated through-holes making the repair process simpler.

If you would to learn how to perform repairs from one of our professional soldering skills trainers call Katy Radcliff at BEST at (847) 797-9250.

ESD Classes
ESd Image
Does your electronics assembly, repair or rework area need a refresher on ESD principles? We teach the basic concepts of ESD: how it occurs, proper precautionary measures required to avoid electronic damage to sensitive electronic components, how to control ESD by working in ESD protected areas and workstations, proper mitigation techniques, proper handling techniques and use of personal grounding devices. In addition, more advanced coursework is avaibale upon request.

The topics covered in ths basics class includes:
1. ESD Awareness * What is Static Electricity * What is ESD * What causes ESD * What types of materials can generate static electricity * What effects ESD can have on electronic components * Problems related to ESD and the relative costs * Difficulties in identifying ESD related failure * Categories of ESD failure
2. Material Handling * How to control generation of static electricity; how to control ESD * Work area control techniques * Proper packaging and handling techniques * Personal Grounding
3. Working in an ESD-Protected Area * ESD Protected Area controls * Elements of an ESD-safe workstation * Proper use of footstraps

Call Katy Radcliff at (847) 797-9250 to see how we can help with a refresher class.

Tobacco Virus as Transistor of the Future?
virus
Nanostructured viruses are attractive for use as templates for ordering quantum dots to make self-assembled building blocks for next-generation electronic devices. So far, only a few types of electronic devices have been fabricated from biomolecules due to the lack of charge transport through biomolecular junctions. Scientists have demonstrated a novel electronic memory effect by incorporating platinum nanoparticles into tobacco mosaic viruses. The memory effect is based on conductance switching, which leads to the occurrence of bistable states with an on/off ratio larger than three orders of magnitude. The mechanism of this process is attributed to charge trapping in the nanoparticles for data storage and a tunneling process in the high conductance state. This is exactly the behavior desired for a digital storage transistor!
