of the publishing of our lead free rework map and the launch of our

Lead-Free Rework Roadmap Finalized
BEST Finalizes Lead Free Roadmap The BEST team has
been busy formalizing its lead free implementation roadmap
which outlines how we will respond to the lead free
challenges. This document will define how we can help our
customers when they ask for our guidance, services and
products. BEST is responding to these customer demands.
Although BEST provides many services, the services that will
be impacted the most due to the lead-free implementation
process are the rework & repair services, BGA rework, and
small-run prototype builds. The elimination of tin/lead
solder from these processes will be determined by the
demands of our customers. BEST will provide lead free
processing services for three groups of customers: those
that require rework of assemblies manufactured with tin/lead
solder, those that require rework of assemblies with both
tin/lead and lead-free solders and those that require rework
of assemblies with lead-free solder only. Our lead free
roadmap defines how we will tightly control the process and
materials .
BEST, in conjunction with Cookson, ALC and PACE, have
created an online course on lead free rework practices. This
course, which can reside on a customer's server or be
accessed anywhere where you can open a browser, is designed
for the hand soldering or rework technician. Issues such as
controlling materials, inspecting lead free solder joints,
as well as the practical aspects of reworking lead free
assemblies are taught in this course. Each student can at
their own pace complete the course and are expected to
complete a test at the end of each of the (4) modules. This
course is the perfect precursor to a hands-on course in
