In this month's message' we discuss ways to outsource legacy equipment repairs and how to get some assistance with training.
Recently BEST was featured on the cover of Circuits Assembly magazine as we performed multiple reflow cycles as part of a multiple time reballing study. We are asked many times and in many ways about the reliability of the reballing process. In this study, devices reballed up to 5 times or 12 PLUS reflow cycles exhibited no impact on the die performance. Read the whole article here.Lastly, I have been exposed through my teens/tweens to some fun iPhone / iPOD Touch "apps" which I describe below. Let me know your favorites. My question to you.....should there be one written for rework?
Best wishes for a fun summer,

Upgrade Your Staff Technical Skills via Grants
Below are a few of the grants available to Illinois companies when training budgets are squeezed:
ETIPM helps keep Illinois workers' skills on pace with new technologies and business practices, which, in turn, help businesses increase productivity, reduce costs, improve quality, and boost competitiveness. ETIP grants can reimburse new or expanding companies for up to 50 percent of the cost of training their employees.
The Innovation Challenge Grant Program is to increase the number of Illinois companies that apply for federal research grants. The federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and its parallel Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program provide over $2 billion a year to small companies developing leading-edge technologies of interest to 11 federal departments and agencies.
For those of you both inside and outside of Illinois in the US we suggest you speak to your local community college or investigate grant writing organizations focused on training in your state. BEST can and has worked with these organizations in order to make sure your work force is the the best that they can be.
Legacy Product Line Repairs
Do you need a way to off load those legacy equipment repairs so that they do not bog down your service group?
BEST offers electronic product repair services for such cases.

One way to reduce this pressure is to consider outsourcing repair services for old legacy equipment. In this outsourced backend services model, the customer experience is still owned and delivered by the OEM.
BEST, through its repair service group, delivers whole unit repair plus spare units and parts.
Some of the BEST test, repair and depot Services offered include:
- In-warranty testing, as well as out of warranty testing
- Out of Production/Non-Current Electronic Equipment and Component Repair

IPOD Touch / iPhone Apps
Here are some fun and some completely idiotic "apps" that you can run on your itouch or iPhone this summer:
Shazam: Ever hear a song somewhere and wonder what it is? Hold your phone up to the song in question: Shazam listens and tells you what it is. Once it knows, Shazam lets you tag the song as a favorite, gives you a link to buy it from iTunes, and, if available, provides links to YouTube videos of the track.
Need More Cowbell Simply Add a glorious clanking cowbell sounds to any song playing on your iPhone. Simple, clean, and oh-so entertaining.
TouchScan - If you have ever wanted to become a detective, here is an application that will help you in doing so.a lie detector, a finger scanner.... everything under one application. It also helps you to match up with the one you love. Both of you can get your fingers scanned and this application tells you what can go on between the two of you.
Are you going to a concert this summer and want to bring on your favorite band for an encore?
Let me know your favorite application or if there should be a PCB rework and repair application written?
