BEST has received several new pieces of
equipment in its stocking in time for
Christmas. We are pleased to be able to
"re-gift" these pieces of equipment in
terms of faster lead times, increased
capabilities and greater customization
capabilities. Our newest BGA rework
system allows us to hold tighter
temperature differentials -useful for the
tighter process windows of lead-free BGA
rework. In addition, this newly-added
machine increases our capacity for BGA
processing.
We are also excited about the arrival of
our new LASER which will allow us to be
able to offer a standard (5) business
day turn on StencilQuik(TM) patterns. In
addition it will allow us to offer LASER
marking services for components and PCBs.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
Bob Wettermann, President
Faster Delivery of StencilQuick
With the increased acceptance of
StencilQuik(TM) as a BGA, LGA and connector rework technique,
lead times have stretched out.
Since there are an estimated
2000 plus patterns, delivery the
right pattern to you at the
right time in the right quantity
has become the challenge.
We are pleased to announce that
starting in January, BEST will
be moving the complete
StencilQuik(TM) manufacturing
process under our "roof" in
order to accommodate standard (5)
business day lead times. Since
the entire manufacturing process
including design, laser
drilling, quality control and
packaging will be under 1 roof,
we can accommodate expedite
requests for those real
emergencies!
The use of our new laser tool
will allow BEST to mark parts or
PCBs, selectively strip
insulation from wiring or make
custom polyimide shapes for
masking purposes.
New Lead-Free Capable BGA Rework
System Brought On Line
BEST has installed a new
high-end BGA rework system which
meets the performance criteria
set for the rework of lead-free
BGAs. This system is uses a
single reflow placement head
design that helps achieve a
consistent, tight temperature
differential across the board
and the component. The new
system provides full convection
heating for both reflow heater
and dual stage pre-heaters to
provide fast ramp and precise
peak reflow temperature without
causing damage to sensitive
components. With four heating
zones and one cooling zone, the
machine can reproduce the
precise profiles needed for
successful removal and
replacement of lead-free
packages.
The rework system provides large
board capability being able to
accommodate large boards up to
24.5" x 24.5" (622mm x 622mm).
The system incorporates dual
stage pre-heaters and has the
thermal capacity to deliver
uniform temperature control
horizontally, across the surface
of PCBs up to 0.25" (6.35mm)
thick, and vertically between
the die and ball of the reworked
component. The rework system
also innovative split vision
optics which allows BEST
operators to view the opposite
corners of a component,
including the necessary
magnification to make placement
and registration fast and
accurate.
Beginning in January of 2005,
you will be able to order BGA
rework services for small
quantities of BGAs needing
removal and replacement. This
will offer you the advantages
of: Faster guaranteed lead times
AND lower cost (10% discount for
on-line orders) More details on
this time and money-saving
program will be forthcoming!
In the mean time if you have
questions regarding any of our
BGA services including removal
and replacement, X-RAY imaging,
endoscopic inspection or
reballing........ We invite you
to call Laura at
(847) 797-9250.
The staff at BEST has developed
a variety of visual aids to help
BEST soldering techs make the
transition to a "mixed" facility
which includes both "tin-lead"
as well as "lead free" hand
soldering operations. These cue
cards, t-shirts, work orders and
posters all have the common
theme of using red and green
colors to differentiate "tin
lead" from our "lead free" work.
The color coding is a quick
way to remember the two slogans
"RED IS LEAD" and "GREEN IS
CLEAN" (trademark pending). For
instance, a RED sticker on a
work order indicates that the
solder alloy and process to be
used is lead-based. A GREEN
sticker indicates "lead free"
solder and processes are to be
used. If you would like a sample
card as a means to help remind
your staff please call Laura
Ripoli at (847) 797- 9250.
