BEST can provide a solution to these productivity issues by through the you use of custom polyimide wave soldering mask. Polyimide SMT tape masks are designed to protect flat surface areas like gold fingers and edge connectors on the circuit board during the wave solder operation.

These masks get rid of the mess associated with secondary processing and cleaning of liquid "peelable masks". In addition, once the custom shape has been designed, you no longer have to be concerned about all areas of the PCB being covered. In addition, the amount of time to mask a board is greatly reduced as the time spent peeling off, cutting and the placing individual strips of tape is eliminated. In addition, unlike both the peelable mask and polyimide tape approaches, you are assured that all areas of the PCB are masked. This prevents rework and scrap.

The polyimide masking material is 4 mils in thickness with a silicon adhesive which does not leave any residue.. Polyimide offers excellent performance in electrical and thermal insulation. It is chemical and heat resistant to withstand short exposures to 525°F (274°C). The masking material conforms to MIL SPEC MIL-P-46112 Type I.

BEST can accept customer GERBER, dxf, dwg and other file formats for creation of these masks. Depending on the size of the masks this will either be one or two piece designs. The precision of the cuts out is 0.001” (0.025mm) with the maximum size being 12” (305mm) x 8” (203mm).
